PROCESSING CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCE

I believe that childhood suffering can dominate a person throughout life, causing anxiety, depression, addiction and other problems. I work with my clients on identifying, processing and gradually healing childhood trauma.

RECOVERY FROM SUBSTANCE ABUSE, PROCESS ADDICTIONS, AND OTHER COMPULSIVE BEHAVIORS

Psychotherapy can support you in establishing a solid foundation for ongoing recovery without falling prey to emotional relapse triggers and self-sabotaging behaviors. It is an excellent adjunct to twelve-step programs.

REDUCING DEPRESSION & ANXIETY AND ADJUSTING PROBLEMATIC THOUGHT PATTERNS

In therapy I utilize a variety of techniques.

This includes the exploration of memories, traumatic childhood experiences, and current thought and behavior patterns, as well as processing of emotions, and interpretation of mental content and dreams.

My patients are encouraged to participate also in a few Minutes of  daily practice to support recovery and improved wellbeing.

This includes mindfulness, breathing exercises, meditation, positive affirmations, reading, or writing.

ARTISTS, ACTORS, MUSICIANS, ADDICTS, AND ALCOHOLICS

I am welcoming artists, actors, and musicians in need for assistance with substance use problems as I am well connected with the recovery community and resources they may need.

Successful treatment may require more services than weekly therapy sessions and I work closely with chemical dependency treatment facilities and medical doctors when necessary.

What is psychotherapy?

In psychotherapy the client processes experiences, thoughts, memories, emotions, fears, and wishes, working through underlying issues toward releasing the past and discovering his/her truth. Psychotherapy is a process of transformation, healing, and liberation from the past.

As a psychotherapist I listen actively and offer support and feedback within a safe environment. The client gets to be seen, heard, and understood, knowing that his/her thoughts and feelings do matter. Dysfunctional thought patterns are gradually replaced by insight and good judgment. It’s all about learning to trust and strengthen his/her sense of self. It changes everything.

I tailor my approach to the needs of the individual client in order to process current and past issues, identify areas to work on, and implement tools to improve their emotional climate

I utilize aspects and concepts of various schools of thought, including psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, as well as existential and spiritual philosophies.

My approach in therapy is twofold:

  1. Weekly or bi-weekly sessions

Underlying issues and adverse childhood experiences are addressed, explored, and processed with techniques including trauma work and inner child work (as indicated) toward healing and integration. Consequently, my clients experience relief of suffering, depression, and anxiety.

2. Mindfulness practice

My clients have the option to learn and practice techniques for reducing anxiety, agitation, and anger through breathing exercises, as well as somatic experiencing and meditation exercises. These techniques actually change the brain, which is of great help for reducing habitual hyper-arousal and reactivity, develop better impulse control, and stop acting out in self-sabotaging ways. It becomes possible to create internal balance and serenity.

I offer a “safe holding environment” tailoring my approach to the needs of the individual client in order to process current and past issues, identify areas to work on, and implement tools to improve their emotional climate.

I utilize aspects and concepts of various schools of thought, including psychodynamic theory, attachment theory as well as existential and spiritual philosophies.
